Trip Plans
outside of the 3rd & 4th of june, your plans are up to you on how you wish to spend your time in scotland! choose your own adventure or reach out to the brides’ if you need any recommendations of their favorite parts of the country! they have seen almost every corner!
the brides will be in edinburgh from may 30th to june 1st before the wedding events commence. all are welcome to join in on their time exploring the city!
on june 5th, the brides plan to spend a couple of days with immediate family members before heading off to their honeymoon!
Wedding Plans
ansley & morgan are providing two nights accommodation for all guests at the wedding venue, dunglass estates, june 3rd & 4th.
please plan to be in Edinburgh no later than the morning of Tuesday, june 3rd.
take a look at the schedule of events for detailed information of planned events for the wedding dates.
Planning Your Trip
Flights
The closest airport to the venue is Edi. there are direct flights from atl-edi available.
additionally, Glasgow is only an hour train ride away and can sometimes have cheaper fares. Glasgow is a lower traffic airport so it can be a bit quicker to breeze through customs on your arrival.
We recommend extending your flight search to include both airports.
Another option:
if you wish to spend some time in london on either end of your trip, there is a 4.5 hour speed train from london to Edinburgh, as well!
Transportation
transportation will be provided onto the estate grounds from edinburgh on june 3rd, and a return trip to the city on june 5th. guests are also welcome to use their own transportation to the estate grounds, if preferred.
if your trip starts or ends in edinburgh, you will not need your own transportation while visiting the city. in fact, if you do choose to travel via rental car (more information on driving in scotland below) it is recommended to pick up your vehicle outside of your time in the city as parking is very scarce and you will not need your vehicle while exploring in the city.
if you choose to venture out of the city, public transportation becomes more scarce. there are railways connecting to every corner of the country and ferries to get you to and from the islands, but once you arrive in any rural village, small town, or island, you will need your own rental car (or “car hire” as the scot’s say) to explore.
DRIVING IN SCOTLAND IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!
the bride’s have successfully completed two cross county road trips and lived to tell the tale…barely.
if you are feeling adventurous, this is the best way to see everything on your own time and access the most spectacular hidden jewels in scotland …..but!
do not underestimate the challenges that come with it! do your research, watch youtube tutorials, familiarize yourself with traffic signs & laws, and plan out time to practice once you pick up your vehicle in some empty parking lots and low-traffic areas.
driving through scotland is an adventure in itself and can be a wonderful option to maximize your trip, with the right planning and care!

there are countless hotel & airbnb options in edinburgh and surrounding areas.
the most convenient neighborhoods to stay in edinburgh are old town, new town, or grassmarket park area. the majority of attractions in the city are within walking distance of these neighborhoods or can be easily accessed via public transportation.
the brides recommend:
Where to Visit?
dunglass estates is located in the east lothian region of scotland. east lothian is full of cliffside coastal vistas, historic attractions, golf courses, wildlife tours, and whisky experiences. however, since east lothian is a mostly rural part of the country, keep in mind accessing these attractions will require advanced transportation planning.
listed below are recommended destination options for those that prefer either convenience or maximization of your scottish experience.
For conVENIENCE:
for those wishing to simplify their scottish experience, We recommend spending your time in Edinburgh before or after the wedding events. specifically, old town, new town, or grassmarket are the most central neighborhoods to stay in for closest access to the city center.
located 45 minutes from dunglass estates, edinburgh has excellent public transportation, is very walkable, and is full of must-see historic attractions, excellent pubs, restaurants, and shopping!
edinburgh is also a pick up hub for joining single or multi-day tours & excursions to popular areas of scotland, such as the highlands, loch ness, & isle of skye.
For the adventurers:
for a true taste of scotland, the brides recommend venturing out into the highlands and/or islands if you are able to! this requires quite a bit of planning and transportation access, but the adventure is worth it to get a full sense of scotland’s beauty!
some of the most beautiful places in scotland can only be accessed by rental car. The country is very rural and uber/taxis are hard to find outside of the major cities. keep this in mind while planning out your itinerary. (see more under transportation.)
